8 Red Flags When Booking a Senior Photographer

It's super important to find the right person to capture your senior year memories. Here are 8 red flags🚩 to watch out for when you're picking your senior photographer:
1. No Portfolio or Sketchy Samples 📸
If a photographer can't show you a solid collection of their work, especially senior photos, that's a major nope! You want to see real results – not just guesses. Make sure they can actually deliver the awesome look you're going for!
2. Heavily Edited Photos 🎨
A little editing is cool, but if their photos look super fake (think weird skin tones or glowing eyes 👀 that aren't humanly possible), it might mean they're not so great at capturing those natural, authentic shots of YOU!
3. Zero Reviews or Testimonials 📣
No buzz? No feedback from other clients? That's like flying blind! Look for a photographer with good reviews– someone others have actually loved working with. Their past clients' happiness is a great sign!
4. Hidden Fees or Confusing Price Lists 💰
Surprise charges are the WORST! If their prices aren't crystal clear upfront or they're vague about what's included, you could end up paying way more than you planned. Make sure everything is totally transparent from the start!
5. No Backup Plan for Bad Weather or Emergencies ☔
What if it rains on your shoot day? Or your photographer gets sick? If they don't have a plan B (or C!), you could be left hanging when the unexpected happens. Flexibility is key for a smooth senior shoot!
6. Blurry Photos 🙅♀️
This one might seem obvious, but if their sample photos consistently look out of focus or fuzzy, that's a huge red flag! Your senior photos should be sharp and clear, capturing every detail perfectly.
7. Unrealistic Promises or Prices That Seem Too Good to Be True 🚨
If a photographer is offering an insane amount of photos, props, locations, and super fast turnaround for a price that's way, way lower than everyone else, it might be a trap! Quality photography takes time, skill, and good equipment. Super low prices can sometimes mean cutting corners, inexperienced work, or hidden costs popping up later. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
8. Specializing in Everything (or Nothing Specific) 🤔
A photographer who claims to be an expert in weddings, newborns, real estate, pets, and senior portraits all at once might not be truly specialized in any of them. While some photographers have a broad range, look for someone who shows a strong portfolio and passion specifically for senior photography. This usually means they understand the unique poses, lighting, and energy that make senior photos shine!
